Nick Coates is the Liberal Democrats parliamentary candidate for North East Somerset. Nick brings a fresh approach to politics. While he is relatively new to party politics, he has been involved in campaigning for most of his adult life.
Nick graduated from University College, London and then qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Most of his work career has been in and around the housing sector: housing associations, regeneration, property development and one role at a firm of architects. Most recently he has been advising small and medium sized enterprises from London to Swansea and from Exeter to Birmingham. His business experience crosses public, not-for-profit and private sectors.
He has been a primary school governor and a Board member of a housing association. He is currently a Trustee of a charitable residential and nursing care home.
When he has time he plays drums in a band.
His passions are housing and regeneration (obviously), reducing the human impact on climate change and campaigning to stay in the EU.
“My ‘claim to fame’ is that I was involved in the only two Tenants’ Choice transfers ever where tenants organised to take control of their homes from local authorities.”
The voices emanating from the political world (media, politicians and public alike) are often strident, hateful and divisive. Extremists are becoming more prominent. The Liberal Democrats are a values-based party which makes us well placed to come to the fore in an ideologically riven country.
Nick’s aim is to bring a positive voice to our political conversations with a fair and forward thinking approach to politics.
